Quilts are wonderful...
...and there is no better time than now, to
be a maker of quilts: with so many gorgeous fabrics, wonderful
patterns and fine magazines devoted to this creative and rewarding
craft.
But after the actual quilt top is made:
what then ?
It is not a quilt yet. It is not a
quilt until it is quilted; and so often, it
is not until this final stage that the
quiltmaker considers this integral element.
Quilting stitches can breathe life into the
flat, two dimensional element that is the
quilt top, and can make or break the entire
project. Quilting design should be
considered up front with the choice of
design and fabric, rather than after the top
is completed.
Beautiful quilting
can
give a quilt the magic that expensive fabric may not necessarily
provide. You need look no further than an exquisite whole cloth
quilt for proof of this.
So, the hope at AQ is to do the following:
1. To raise awareness in quiltmakers of the role
of quilting in the making of their design
from the very outset, and not as a last
minute consideration; and
2. To provide a resource for sharing and inspiration
for those professional quilters who carry out the integral and
dare I say, decisive role of adding those
final, but definitive, stitches to a
crafter's precious project.
Enjoy, and let me know what you think

INSPIRATIONS
The need for quilting
inspiration
was one of the main reasons I decided to
start this website,
to form a central point to collect and share quilting ideas and techniques.
Working on client quilt tops can sometimes
be stalled by 'quilter's block', and
nothing works better to get the creative
juices flowing than to look at the work of
other great quilters.
Of course we know of many wonderful quilters from all over the world, but
for the purposes of this site I have decided
to focus on the work of my Aussie
colleagues...many of whom are often very
reluctant to show off their work!
PROFESSIONAL
QUILTERS'
DIRECTORY
A
FREE directory for all Australian professional quilters with
links to their web pages and profile pages
If you are a
professional quilter and wish to be in the
directory, please email with your details
and they will be added free
of charge.
If you have a top to be quilted and are
looking for a quilter in your area, this may
be the resource for you. Please be
aware that this directory is a listing only,
and not a recommendation. Take the
time to visit the quilter's website and make
other enquiries before submitting a top for
professional quilting.

If
you've come back to the
Australian Quilters'
page just recently, you will notice that
after a long time on the back burner that
some changes have been made to the website.
Firstly, the colour
scheme has been fine tuned a bit, and some
layout changes also. More importantly
though, the resource galleries are starting
to expand, with more detailed photos to help
inspire our professional quilters.
The main focus for the
next few weeks will be to make the galleries
more comprehensive, covering as wide a range
of quilts as possible. I will source
out contributions from Aussie quilters on
whom I rely to generously share their
expertise.
I have updated and
added some new members to the Quilters'
Directory, and encourage all quilters to
take a look to confirm that their details
are correct. I would also appreciate
knowing if any entry should be removed, or
if anyone would like to be added to the
list.
I have also received
some great ideas from directory members, and
will definitely be adding their suggestions
to the website.
Please keep the
feedback coming!
Cheers, Di |
